Poems compiled by John Dixon [manuscript], [ca. 1780-1817].

A poetical commonplace book containing extracts, mainly from English poetry of the 18th and early 19th centuries, including some from Shakespeare. In vol. 1 (M.a. 53) is a silhouette of Dixon by his graddaughter Laura Beecroft, some introductory remarks by his daughter Judith Dixon Beecroft, and a laudatory poem by John Taylor. From these we learn that Dixon was over 80 at the time of his death, that he was "skilled in the graphic art," and that he was a musician.
